Purpose
The second International Eco Working Holiday, 2005 Eco Working Holiday Taiwan, will be held in Yonglai Abandoned Mine, located in Yangmingshan National park . The project is to build an artificial wetland for the preservation of vegetative species. It is expected that the project can make an example for the agendas of environmental conservation.

Characteristics of the Venue
Yonglai Abandoned Mine

  • In Yangmingshan National Park , one of the most celebrated scenic spots in Taiwan .
  • Along the armament road of Cingtiangang, on the left side 500 m from the intersection of Lengshuikeng Ecological Restoration Pond.
  • Originally a zeolite mine, now deserted with a vacant ground, some ponds and basins, deserted pits, and silvergrass slopes
  • Not like the ecological restoration pond at Lengshuikeng, or the family activity facilities at Chingteingang, Yun-Lai Desert Pit is equipped with three pavilions, wood plank paths, and two illustration squares.

Activities
Soil restoration, building of artificial marshes, planting, bird, frog, and insect observation, historical exploration, and cultural communication with guests from different countries.

Participants
Open to all older than 18 years; volunteer workers in environmental institutions preferable.

Number of participants (estimation)
16 for domestic participants, 9 for international participants.

Charge (estimation)
NT$ 5,000 (US$ 158), food, lodging, traffic, activity cost, and insurance included.

Recruitment
Domestic: through universities, adult education, community colleges, and internet. The candidates are then selected according to their potential for environmental conservative participation.

International: recruited by local National Land Trust Institutes.
